Who is Chris Molendorp?Cass County native Chris Molendorp was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2008.
The son of local public school teachers, Chris was educated in the Belton and Raymore-Peculiar public school districts graduating from Raymore-Peculiar in 1987. He attended Texas Christian University (TCU) and the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating from Mizzou in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Following his service in the office of the Missouri State Treasurer in Jefferson City, Chris started his private sector career with Emery Worldwide, a division of Consolidated Freightways. He later joined the family insurance business where he works to this day. As President of the 33 year old Molendorp Insurance Agency, Chris leads one of Cass County’s oldest continuously owned businesses. The Molendorp Insurance Agency belongs to the Raymore and Belton Chambers of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business. In 2004, Chris was elected President of the Belton Chamber of Commerce. In 2005, the Raymore Chamber of Commerce honored the business as Business of the Month.
Long active in local and civic affairs, Chris is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 4492; the Bel-Ray Sunrise Lions Club; the University of Missouri Alumni Association; the State Historical Society of Missouri and the Jefferson Club.
Chris was first appointed to the Raymore Park Board in 1994 where he served until elected to the Raymore City Council in 1995. He is a past member of the Research Belton Hospital Board of Directors and Hope Haven Board of Directors. From 2000-2004 he served as Chair of the Cass County Republican Central Committee. In 2003, Kansas City’s Ingram’s Magazine named Chris one the 40 most influential business leaders in Greater Kansas City under the age of 40.
Married to Lee’s Summit native Julie Wolfenbarger, the Molendorp’s have two sons, Tyler(12) and Blake(10). Both boys attend Mill Creek Upper Elementary in Belton. The family attends Belton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where the Molendorp family has attended since 1966.
Chris claimed 56.2% of the vote in 2008, taking 17 out of 18 precincts in the general election. Normally considered a Democrat stronghold, Chris has worked tirelessly on Cass County issues, the protection of state funding for the Belton and Raymore-Peculiar school districts and for strong ethics and campaign finance laws during his first term in Jefferson City.
